About KNECT
A catalyst for community-led change
OurWhy
Our Why
As a group of people who refuse to sit on the sidelines, we help good ideas become reality for people, nature and the future of Buller Kawatiri. Collaboration is our superpower. KNECT acts as a catalyst for community-led change, helping connect people, expertise, funding and practical action to bring ambitious ideas to life.
We support projects that strengthen our communities, restore our environment, build resilience and create opportunities for future generations. We don’t believe meaningful change happens alone. The best ideas emerge when communities work together, share knowledge and back each other to succeed.
That’s what KNECT exists to do.
WhatWe Do
What We Do
KNECT turns ideas into action. From ecological restoration and local food resilience to innovative education and community wellbeing initiatives, our projects are varied. However, they all share a common goal: creating a thriving Buller Kawatiri where people and nature flourish together.
This flexibility is our strength. As an independent charitable trust, KNECT has the freedom to think creatively, looking beyond organisational boundaries to connect people, pursue ideas across sectors and help shape the future we want to pass on to coming generations. KNECT isn’t defined by its projects. It is defined by a willingness to back people who want to make things better.
The future we want for Buller Kawatiri won’t happen by accident. It will happen because ordinary people choose to step forward, work together and create something extraordinary.
WhoWe Are
Who We Are
In 2022, a group of local scientists, engineers, planners, teachers, business owners and community leaders looked around Buller Kawatiri and saw incredible potential. They saw passionate people, innovative ideas and a community that cared deeply about its future. What was often missing wasn’t vision or commitment. It was the connections, support and momentum needed to turn ideas into reality.
So they created KNECT. Read about our trustees below.
